Safe and Inclusive Sports

All eyes are on sport after the success of Australia’s athletes at the Olympics and the upcoming Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

In an Olympics where gender equality was proclaimed as a key goal, the Australian team had its highest ever proportion of women (55 per cent). Over the past few years, many sporting codes have taken visible steps to improve diversity and make events and games welcoming, safe and inclusive for everyone.

Tennis Australia, for example, has made the Australian Open ‘open for all’ with its All-Abilities Day, sensory and quiet rooms, and the AO Pride Hub.

We’ve enjoyed working with AFL clubs, cricket organisations at state and national level, and motor racing associations to help embrace diversity among participants and spectators.

We’re currently working with Cricket NSW to create a workshop for local clubs and associations to help grow the participation of girls and women in the sport. This follows our research and consulting support to develop Cricket NSW’s new Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Strategy, that complements its new South Asian Engagement Strategy launched in June.
