Safe and Inclusive Boards

There’s growing attention on how to facilitate inclusive board cultures that support the retention of appointees from diverse backgrounds. This is in response to the increasing diversity on boards in the Australian public and private sector over the past decade.

We’ve recently created a new program for boards focused on advancing diversity and inclusion at the board level. It covers essential knowledge for promoting these goals and offers insights into inclusive decision making and practices. We use a case study of a Chair or Board Director whose behaviours and practices may inadvertently limit diversity and inclusion.

Last month we put this into action when Senior Consultant, Anna Carter, delivered an Inclusive Leadership workshop with AFAC (National Council for Fire and Emergency Services) Chairs of the National Council for Fire and Emergency Services (AFAC) Collaboration Groups, which included almost 60 senior leaders from various member agencies across Australia and New Zealand. The session was specifically targeted at their roles as Chairs and focused on the importance of bringing an inclusive lens to their decision making and meetings.
